Freshman linebacker Alfy Hill’s coursework has been red flagged by the NCAA Clearinghouse just two weeks
before the season kicks off.
Mike Ward, Alabama’s associate athletic director in charge of compliance, released a statement regarding the
situation on Hill:
“The eligibility Center has declined to accept certain courses taken at Alfy Hill's high school as core
courses for use in certification," the statement said. "This has resulted in Alfy being deemed a
nonqualifier. We will continue to assist the high school in their efforts to have the courses reevaluated
by the Eligibility Center.
"Harrison Jones has elected to enroll immediately to fill the roster spot created by this situation."
Jones is a freshman tight end who originally was going to grayshirt and enroll in January. However, because
of the changing circumstances, Jones will be practicing on the team while Hill sits out.
The Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) only allows 85 scholarship players. Alabama officials say they are
hopeful Hill regains his eligibility this fall, but whether there is a spot for him on the team when the
Clearinghouse clears him only time will tell. In all likelihood, Hill will either have to go to prep school
or the JUCO route to be on the football team in the future.
The 2010 signee was rated the third best prospect out of his home state of North Carolina by Rival’s.com
and also participated in the Under Armor All-American Game back in January.
